No Surprises

This is a photo of me and Oscar de la Renta. We took this photo when I was at his house in the Dominican Republic last week. Beautiful home, gracious host, nice man. And the good news, I didn't feel as dorky as I looked when I took this photo.

My Iron Lung

Sketch for a cartoon I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to flesh out, and a photo of Evey on Easter.
More cleverness later... I'm 33, I get tired earlier now.

Planet Telex

Some photos from the Eudora park... but not the one nearest our house. The one with equipment that makes no sense for a child of Evey's age, yet she likes to go there anyway...
Great weekend here. Had some friends over Saturday night, then the Johnsons and my Mom came over on Sunday to celebrate my birthday (which is in 90 minutes from when I'm typing right now -- I turn 33). My sister and Mark got me and Adro tickets to see Modest Mouse (awesome!) and my mom got me a Chiefs jersey and two new tires for my Z (double-awesome!)
All the celebrating has me worn out... I need a third weekend day!

Hunting Bears

How's this one for a Radiohead title/photo combination?

"Hunting Bears" is off Amnesiac, btw.

OK, Evey is going to blog now:

Wow, great stuff, Evey. You were one keystroke away from spelling "Seth," "Hug" and correctly spelled "Uru," which, as we all know, is the metal that Thor's hammer is made of.

Uh-oh... it's past our bedtime, though. We better quit hunting bears, starting hunting sheep (not a Radiohead song).

All I Need

Reason No. 721 why I love my wife:

We were eating birthday cake tonight (happy birthday Uncle Tony Romero!) when I poured myself a second glass of milk. Judy says, "Wow, you're drinking that milk like it was beer!" Adrianne then says, "Seth LOVES milk... whenever he has a dessert, he always has two glasses... cake, cookies, whatever!"

And that just made me think... how cool is it that I've never told her how much I love milk with my dessert... yet she knows this about me... and this is probably a key reason why we ALWAYS have milk in our house. Because she knows how much me and Evey love milk!

'Cause I can tell you right now, my wife doesn't love milk.

But she loves us.

Black Star

A couple photos of Evey playing her video game... her hair was cracking me up this day, I don't know how Elvira got the '80s flip look to happen... but I like it.
Evey shocked us on Sunday when she came into the kitchen and asked us, "Where's my black grandma? Have you seen my black grandma?"
Me and Adro just sort of looked at each other... hey, I know the U.S. Census forces us Mexicans to declare that we're black or white, but...
And then Evey let us off the hook: "...So I can take pictures."
OHHHH. Black camera. It's right over there...

Treefingers

We've spent the better part of two days shopping for the perfect tree for our yard. What have we got to show for it? A new sandbox for Evey and this awesome photo.

I've got a couple good Evey one-liners from this weekend but they'll have to wait... not buying trees has made me TIRED.

Where I End and You Begin

NERD ALERT!

Here's a video I did for Pulp Legacy... it's me in my basement, talking about my comics books (specifically, my Captain America collection and my Amazing Spider-Man collection). It's six minutes long. I'M EVEN WEARING SWEATPANTS. Jesus, how did I ever get Adrianne to marry me?

Check it out only if you really are bored. (And if you want to come over, check out my comics, and have a discussion about the best Spider-Man artists... justgimmeacall.)

By the way, this video has been viewed over 200 times. Spooky, eh?

Everything in its right place

Here's a photo of me after KU got upset at Oklahoma State this year.

It was at this moment that I decided it was OK not to take KU to win it on all my brackets... and yet, I still filled out most of mt brackets (4) with my heart, and only one with my head (taking Duke).

I hated seeing Butler go down, but hey, that's $375 I just made. I really can't remember the last time I won a bracket...

You know when I knew KU was going down this year? About 6 hours before the tip-off of the KU-Northern Iowa game. Want to know what tipped me off?

The cover of Sports Illustrated.

See, I subscribe to SI. I used to get it every Thursday. Since I moved to Eudora, sometimes I get it on Friday, Saturday... the following Monday.

I hadn't seen that week's cover until I stopped in at Border's (still in business, remarkably). There was Sherron Collins... DUNKING... on the cover of SI. The problem? HE CAN'T DUNK!

That's exactly the kind of bad mumbo-jumbo that dooms you in the field of 64!

Duke, meanwhile, never screwed up. They survived. My TV nemesis Dickie V took them to win it -- he was the only guy on ESPN not to pick KU.

I still hate Duke. But at least this year they paid off.

Bodysnatchers

Pretty nice Easter here. I got lots of good photos of Evey hunting Easter eggs in the backyard, I'll share them once I've uploaded.

On Saturday we went and saw "How to Train Your Dragon." Great movie! I really enjoyed it. I had one tiny problem with the end, otherwise I thought it was a well written story, well told, fast-moving, with great characters. Some of my favorite characters -- and I think anyone would say this about the film -- were the unique dragons. I really enjoyed how there were different "makes and models" of dragons and we got to learn a little about each style. Very imaginative.

I didn't ask Adro what she rated it, but I'd give it a solid 9 out of 10. We didn't see it in 3-D, and I'm wishing we would have, I'm sure the flying scenes would have been spectacular. (We avoided 3-D because Evey doesn't like wearing the glasses... at least, she didn't at "Toy Story.")

Evey really enjoyed it too, although she did cover her eyes at a few of the stressful moments, and she screamed a few times... but I think she was having fun the entire time. My Mom went with us as well, and I think she also had a lot of fun.

Now I want to go see "Clash of the Titans." Adro said she'd go with me.

RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!
