Evey and Daddy's annual KU football excursion

Thanks to Evey for humoring me... We paid $20 to get in, and left midway through the 2nd quarter to play games at Rick's...

Weekend that was

Does this look like a devil to you?

We were at the Monarch watch place on west campus on Saturday... it was cool that morning so Boyd was wearing his Spider-Man stocking cap. An older lady saw Boyd and said, "Look at that boy! He's wearing a devil mask!"

I said, "It's a Spider-Man mask!"

"Oh," she said.

But then I said, "But a devil mask wouldn't be too inappropriate for him."

Great weekend here. Highlights include the Monarch event; Royals game for Neuty and me; watching a ton of sports; taking the day off on Friday; golfing 9 holes at Eagle Bend; lunch with Adro at 23rd St. Brewery; some good bargains at Love Garden; mowing and the yard looking AWESOME; Evey's room getting cleaned and looking AWESOME; hanging with Judy Saturday; getting a ton of laundry done; getting in 6 miles over the weekend; seeing 213.5 on the scale.

Lowlights include Boydee being occasionally stinky; Adro and I being occasionally grumpy; and the funky smell in the garage.

Picture day is tomorrow! Evey, smile big!

The kids have two Monarchs in cocoons in the house. They should be coming out soon. It's pretty cool... you can see the butterfly all rolled up in the one.

I don't love the butterfly event because parking is crazy, the hallways are too narrow, too many rugrats running around, etc. But I brought a book along and was mostly OK.

But it was nice that the family all did something together. And like I said, the cocoons are cool.

Ninja Warrior vs. Dr. Solar

I just won Royals tickets off Channel 6 News! Whoo-hoo!

***

Bought a couple Dr. Solar comics off eBay. Four issue, # 10, # 20, # 23 and # 26... all from the late 1960s. Mine for the low, low price of $15.

eBay is awesome. They're reader copies, the best one is in VG condition.

Evey has been doing great at school. I think she went on a run of 5 consecutive days of "off the charts" good behavior. I'm starting to think she might be Mr. Powers' favorite.

***

Adro's car has a funky smell to it. Probably something Boydee stashed in the car.

Adro was asking Boyd if he knew what it was.

"Mom, I think it's just some stinky fumes," he said.

He turns three next month.

Can you believe this cold snap? Twenty degrees below the average temperature. What a strange weather year.

***

I've been trying to get into better shape lately. Been trying to eat right, and working out a little. I ran 10 miles last week, and I've ran 6 miles this week. Lifting weights intermittently, too. I've lost 5 pounds so far.

If I could lose another 5 or 10, I'd be thrilled. Started out at 222, currently 217.

Caught the Chevelle concert on Tuesday night with Joe and his buddy Scott. Good times. At the Uptown Theater.

Last time I saw them was over ten years ago. I know this because I was with my friend John Wake, who has been dead for... 11 years now?

***

Had a dream about my Dad last night. I was carrying luggage into a hotel room, or something. The best par tof the dream was, when he walked in, I just walked over and gave him a big ol' hug. The rest of the dream was random BS, but that part was cool.

Boyd and Sylvia, Labor Day 2014

It's Monday night. Three-day weekends truly have become one of my favorite things. And that's coming from a guy who works from home. I can imagine how you feel!

***

Sylvia and Boydee, taken today at Rod and Lupe's place. Sylvia is 6 months old. Boyd, 2 years, 11 months. Sylvia is Rosalina and Brent's little girl.

***

Tomorrow is Adro's birthday. Wish her well, if you see her. Tell her Seth sent ya'.

***

My unbridled energy continues. I swam for a few hours with Boyd. Hung out at Jessica's. That doesn't sound like much, but trust me — it was a BUSY DAY.

Yet I went back to work tonight and edited/proofed 5 pages of the magazine.

***

Here is your shocking stat of the day: In August of 2014, Especially Evey (But Also Boydee) had 1,000 hits. That's shocking to me. I really thought it was down to just Adrianne, Damon and I at this point. But apparently there are still some of you out there. Thanks for reading! Sorry for the occasional swearing and drunk blogging.

I wonder how much of it is random web surfing from people who have no idea who we are and stumble here, somehow. I really do wish I knew who everyone is who knows of this site. Why? It would stroke my ego.

I've been a professional writer/editor for 17 years now, but it still tickles me that someone besides my mom would read my stuff.

***

On that note, check out the new issue of Kansas magazine, where I have a fun little article.

***

And please do click over to Golfdom, on a regular basis. And Athletic Turf.

***

Then there's this. I had fun!

***

The big news of the weekend, I think, is the massive leap Boyd took in swimming. Judy took him to swimming lessons this year, and it shows. But on Saturday, Boyd was pretty much a bobber in the water, and you had to try to convince him to paddle. Today (Monday)? It was like he had two rudders underwater... he puttered all over the pool!

He also enjoys diving in feet-first off the diving board. That impresses Rod. It does show some guts, I guess. But at the same time, it's one small step.

***

I should mention that this weekend was notable because Adrianne found inspiration to buy me some new clothes. Suddenly, I'm not such a slob. New shoes, new shorts, new shirts... thank you Adro! Sorry I hate shopping for clothes for myself. But, as I've told you before... you keep me farting in cotton. Like right now.

(Also, apologies for fart jokes. That might have been the first one, though.)

***
Happy birthday, Adrianne! I love you.
