Papa and his girls

We took this shot on Marina's 2nd birthday. Evey had just woken up when I took the shot, so she's a little spaced out still.
Me and Evey are taking a day off together tomorrow... look for us having some fun in the sun! Whoo-hoo!!!

Hey! We're swimming!

Photo ofm e and Evey swiming at the hotel pool in Monet, Mo.
Hung out with Greg Nunn and James Stakweather tonight. Like old times. Great seeing those old fools.
Congrats to Nami and Corey, who welcomed twins into the world -- Emi and Eli. That's why Greg was in town, to see the newest set of twins to join the Nunn family.

Coming home

Ready to get back. Been a great trip -- I've got about 1,000 stories that would only interest comic geeks -- but I miss my girls!!!

Call me "Shades"

Took this on the drive to Roaring River Resort in southern Missouri. Evey won't wear them long... she likes them but then rips them off...

San Diego Comic-Con

This will be my home for the next couple days... not too bad.

Lots to come... I think

I've got a ton of new photos... just need time to start posting them. Hopefully SOON.

Saw Dark Knight this afternoon. I was horribly disappointed. I'll have a detailed report of my problems with the movie written up in the next several weeks -- I'll need it to defend myself with my comic geek friends. But I think the faults were right there in front of everyone, they just got caught up in the hype. And that's OK.

I'm not a contrary person, I really don't think I am. The movie just had a lot of faults, and even a few moments that failed the giggle test, sadly.

Hello from Roaring River State Park!

More coming soon... more photos for sure. Right now, Adro wants to show off the web site to Alan and his family... and try to convince them to come to this Web site at least ONCE a YEAR!!!
Also, we are talking about Sebelius for VP. What do you think?
Check out that dessert in front of Adro and Alan! HUGE!!!

Batman 20 years ago

So. "The Dark Knight" comes out today (Thursday), midnight.

I have my doubts. The motorcycle on the movie poster, for example. Looks weird. And do you remember in "Batman Begins" that... Bale had a really weird "Batman" voice? It was a little WWF. Just my opinion.

I was talking to my sister about "The Dark Knight" this evening (Wednesday night). It reminded me of a story, one that my sister had forgotten.

Twenty years and... three weeks ago (June 23, 1989), "Batman" starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson came out. As an 11-year-old, I wanted to see it... really, really bad. But mom, dad and Jess (18 at the time) didn't see the urgency of getting out to the movie on opening weekend.

I begged and I begged, but no one was willing to take me to battle the crowds that opening weekend. I was bummed; I gave up.

My sister was waiting tables at Tippin's in Wichita at the time. She came home from her shift with a surprise for me: two tickets for us to go see "Batman" on opening night!

I still have the movie ticket to this day. I remember when she handed it to me... it was unlike any movie ticket I had ever seen. It was a plain white little square of paper and it just said "Northrock" and "Batman" along with a time. It didn't seem real.

But it was. We went and saw "Batman," and I decided then and there that it was the greatest movie of all time, "Citizen Kane" be damned. I then went on a Batman rampage: Batman T-shirts, toys, cereal, lunch box, you name it. I had Bat-fever. In some ways, I still do, to this day.

Anyway, my sister doesn't even remember any of this. As I told her, it was a much bigger deal to me than it was to her. "I'm glad I was a cool big sister," she said.

Still is.

More randomness

Why not?

First photo -- the girls on father's day weekend.
Second photo -- Evey in her chair.
Third photo -- shot of St. John's Catholic Church.
Fourth photo -- Angry Seth.
Fifth photo -- Mark, me, Dad and Jett chillin'.
I can't help it... I look good in pink, OK? (At least, my wife says so.)

Not much to report on tonight. Played volleyball. We went 5-1. Let the sixth and final game slip away.

You know we're in awful yearly sports lull when 1) the Sports Illustrated "Where are they now?" issue comes out and 2) When it's MLB all-star game time. Looks like I'll get to catch up on some reading.
Oh, somethign newsworthy: Greyson has his own blog now. Check it out here: http://greysshenanigans.blogspot.com/ Fair warning: There is a photo of Jeff with a mustache.

Why am I so wiped out? Oh, yeah. I'm old.

I got a letter from John McCain yesterday. I don't even have an address on my house... and yet he still finds me.

Final thought for you, Billy Packer: adios.

Leftovers

I'm home! I'm home!

It's good to be back. I'm almost used to it. And we're not leaving again until Saturday.

Some leftover photos here... that gorilla stares down Evey and Adro; me and Brad Heitmeyer after some golw-in-the-dark football (98 catches without a drop); me and Chris Moore after moving him in to his new place (142 pieces of furniture without a drop); Jeff (Melissa's boyfriend), Melissa (my cousin -- yes, she's wearing clothes in that pic) and me in New Orleans; the storm cloud we flew into on my way back from New Orleans.
More later... I'm buried under freelance work right now.

Zoo photos!!!

It was probably the best day I've had in a long, long time.

We took Evey to the zoo for the first time ever. Went to the Topeka zoo. We all had a good time. The weather was perfect (on Saturday). The zoo wasn't crowded.

Best part of the zoo -- check out the silverback gorilla climbing over our heads. At first, he was staring down Adro and Evey, next thing we know, he's climbing over the glass tunnel we're in! I got a few photos, it was pretty wild.

I'm sort of a big deal

At least I am to Comic Book Resources. As big a deal as 50 other people you've never heard of, and some people who dress in costumes at comic book conventions...

Click here, scroll down towards the bottom for a photo of yours truly looking like a dork. (No, that's not me in the Spidey costume... I swear. My Spidey costume is the classic red-and-blue version...)

I'll probably be posting more at the GCM blog this week, but I do have some stuff "in the can" for this site as well.

Isn't there a new Beck CD due out soon?
