I took the family to Independence, Mo., Sunday afternoon for a WICHITA WINGS game! Yeah!
This post, and the two below it, are all photos from the game. (Sorry Boydee, you were sleeping when I took the time to snap some pics... you are going to have to debut your rockin' new haircut on the blog next time!)
The Wings got crushed, but we still had a great time. The Wings took an early lead, then a dude got stomped on his face (one of the Wings) which later resulted in a cheap shot thrown, which resulted in the Wings' top scorer getting ejected from the game, which resulted in the drubbing.
Every time the Comets would score, the crowd would be going crazy and Evey would turn and boo and hiss at me, like I had just done something terrible. I kept telling her to express that anger towards the field, not me -- I didn't do anything! But at least she is slowly understanding the concept of booing... I think.
I did buy Evey some cotton candy for once. She always asks for it, never gets it (I always convince her that we need nachos). Well, she took all of two bites of the cotton candy, and was done with it. At least now I can justify to her never buying cotton candy again!
Adro held Boydee for the entire game, and he did sneak in about an hour nap, even though we were right back to the makeshift band. Boyd enjoyed the game, he clapped a lot and never fussed.
Adro enjoyed the game too, actually! When the Wings player got stomped on, that helped Adro establish that the Comets are EVIL (something I learned in 1986) and she was now officially on the side of the Wings, not just there to support her hubby's weird fandom. In fact, I heard her shout "Shoot!" at one of our players, and I asked her, "What?" (thinking, surely she wasn't that into the game, right?) and she responded, "Why didn't he shoot the ball! He was open!"
I was impressed, and suddenly in love with my wife by approximately 17 more degrees (taking that temperature to 17,892 degrees Kelvin... whatever that is).
SO, it took us 40 minutes one way... $17 a ticket... a good time for all.
We like the Sunday afternoon games. 3 p.m. kickoff, so it's not stressful to get there on time, and we don't get home so late.
The Comets plays three more Sunday afternoon games this season -- Feb. 10th, 17th and 24th. We'll surely be going to one, maybe two of the three. You're invited to join us. Yes, YOU. Come on, it'll be fun! When was the list time you cheered for the road team???
