Boydee's big day

Great news! Boydee had his baptism on Saturday! The whole thing went off without a hitch. We were worried the it would get complicated, trying to get so many people from out-of-town in Lawrence at the same time. But everyone went out of their way to be there, and at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Father John baptized Boydee. Father John also baptized Evey and married me and Adro, so he has "hit for the cycle" for the Jones family.

Two other kiddos got baptized at the same time. It was a good crowd at the church. All three kids were calm and cool during their individual baptisms. Boyd didn't cry or scream, he just chilled out the entire time.

Boyd's Godparents are Mike Abasolo and Lindsey Kaminski. They both drove a long ways to be there for Boydee. They are already proving themselves to be great Godparents, just by being there on time on a Saturday morning!

After the baptism we all went to Longhorn Steakhouse for lunch, and then to the spring football game. It was a great day.

Before and after

Evey said goodbye to 8 inches of hair today!

You can tell she loves her new short hair, as she keeps flipping it, maybe in disbelief.

I know we're going to love it tomorrow morning when it takes half the time to get her hair ready for school!

For the record, me and her mom really love this new look for Evey too. In fact, Adro said it made her want to get her hair cut short, too.

Me and Boydee were mildly impressed. And then we laughed, said "girls!" and rubbed each others short, no-combing-needed heads, while we watched NBA.

Boydee on the Terror Dome

When we first put Boydee in his "Circle Circus" he'd scream and freak out. So I renamed it "The Terror Dome."

Now he likes it. But we still call it the Terror Dome.

Boydee Measures Up

Boydee had his 6-month appointment on Friday, and did pretty well. He got three shots, and he HATES shots. Screamed like a banshee. His sister used to frown for a second, then she'd get over it. I don't think she cried once over any of her shots. It was pretty crazy, actually -- I remember writing once that I wondered if Evey lacked a sense of pain, because she never seemed to cry about anything that should have hurt, from shots to falling down.

Anyway, Boydee's appointment. He weighed 15 pounds, 14 ounces, putting him in the 23rd percent. He's a lightweight. He is 27 inches long, which puts him in the 73rd percent of boys his age. And lastly, his head was 17.5 inches in circumference, putting him in the 80th percentile.

So he's tall, skinny, with a big head and cries easily. Just like Dad.

Happy 6th Month Birthday Boydee!

We celebrated tonight with brownies and even birthday candles! We'll celebrate tomorrow with shots! And not the kind daddy likes!

Here's a pic of Boydee chillin' at the hotel in Vegas.

It should be noted that Boydee seems to be saying the word "daadaa" with regularity. Sorry, no "mama" or "Evey" or "sissy" yet!

Boydee, meet G'ma JoJo

I was happy to finally introduce my son to my grandma Joyce. Grandma has been grilling me for months now to get him down to Wichita. I wasn't able to until a few weekends ago. My travel schedule has been too fierce lately, I told Grandma. And it was no lie -- January, February and March, I've been on the road a lot. I promised her as soon as my schedule settled down, we'd be there.

We arrived, and Boydee was in full-on charmer mode. So was Evey. My Grandma was so happy to see these two kids.

Turns out I got there when Chris (a third-cousin, or something) was there with his wife and 2-year-old daughter. And then my cousin Nichol showed up as well. Add in Uncle Vince and Greta, and Boydee got to meet a fair share of the Gomez family.

The sad news is that my Grandma was pretty disoriented while I was there. It's the first time I've seen her this way. She really couldn't grasp who my son was, or who I was. "Who's boy is this?" she kept asking me and my Mom. Unfortunate. It's tough getting old. But regardless of Grandma's mental state, I could tell it made her happy to be holding a baby. And it made me happy that my son got to meet his Great-Grandma JoJo. Hopefully next time it's on better terms.

Boydee's eyes are changing

Sent from my iPhoneHe seems to be getting some brown/hazel around his iris... Will be interesting to see how his eyes end up. Evey has really brown eyes, me and ADRO both have hazel eyes, though adro's are a lot more green than mine.

Boydee's first flight

Boydee catches a smooch from Momma on the flight to Vegas.

Evey with red cheeks, red sweater and orange Cheetoh remnants.

Here are a couple photos from Boydee's first flight, taken to Las Vegas, on Friday, February 24th. Boyd was four months old at the time.

He did great on the flight. He was happy, drooly, and slept a lot and ate on occasion. It was a direct flight, so there wasn't much fuss from Boyd. We did one diaper change, and we used my lap as the changing table.

Evey was much more needy on the flight to Vegas. Out of nowhere she decided she needed to go to the bathroom, so Grandma Judy squeezed into the airplane bathroom with her. Her portable DVD player was out of charge (my fault) and that upset her. She colored some, then wiggled around some. Looking out the window entertained her for a little bit. She would lay down, but refused to take a nap, and stayed awake the whole flight. It was a long flight for Evey.

When we landed -- all six of us -- we had a lot of luggage to haul. I think we had 21 pieces of luggage in all, including a stroller and a baby car seat.

I stepped outside and grabbed a stretched Hummer limo, because that was about what we needed to get us all to the hotel. Plus, Vegas, baby. Might as well start the trip off right.

I think only me, Adro and Judy enjoyed the limo. Boydee, obviously, had no idea if he was in an airplane, a limo or a UFO. My mom seemed to be wore out and overwhelmed by the entire flying/security experience, and I think she was ready to turn around and get back on another plane to go home about 15 minutes after we landed. And Evey was totally distracted by the hip-hop music videos on the TVs and the booming system in the limo. And she was too tired to dance and have fun with it.

The funniest moment, and the moment that might possibly sum up Las Vegas for families, was when a new song came on the TV screen. Not a bad hip-hop song, a good beat, something to dance to at a club, I guess... and then he starts singing... and the chorus, clearly pronounced so as to be no confusion, went:

You know my motivation,
Given my reputation,
Please excuse me
I don't mean to be rude
But tonight, I'm f****** you!

As soon as I heard it I went "Whoaaaa!!!" and the driver killed the TV feed about as quickly as he could (so Evey only heard the chorus about, oh, two more times!) Evey was like, "What just happened to the TVs?" and I told her to just enjoy the ride.

Vegas. Next time, we're leaving the kids and the grandmas at home, OK babe? (No offense to the kids and the grandmas... we'll take you somewhere tropical next.)

Room with a view

Sent from my iPhoneHere's a shot from the balcony in Vegas. Evey enjoying a quick cookie before we hit the road.

Like i mentioned earlier, we went big with our hotel room, and booked the biggest, nicest room in the Riviera. It's not the nicest hotel in Vegas, so it was do-able.

When we got home, Evey ran upstairs. "mom!" she shouted. "our furniture shrunk!!!"

Wait until she tries taking a bath in our tub...

Asher and Boydee

Here's a pic from last year... I don't think I've posted it yet. Boydee was a few weeks old. I'm holding Asher, Jeff is holding Boydee.

Big game on Saturday. I am ready to crush Missouri!

Evey announced to us the other day that she ate "See-Wee" at lunch. We said, "seaweed?" and she said, "No, SEE-WEE!!!" She liked it.

But the "white broccoli" they also served? She didn't dig that.
