Update on my dad

Well, they just took my dad into pre-op.

A week ago they discovered a "mass" on his brain. We've been dealing with it as best we can. Everyone, especially my mom and dad, are holding up pretty well.

They're going to remove a piece of this mass and perform a biopsy on it. That will tell us our next steps. It will take one week to get the results back on this biopsy.

The mass cannot be removed, it's in too sensitive of an area.

Thank you to everyone who has called or emailed their support and prayers. If this is the first you're hearing about this, sorry if I hadn't managed to tell you person-to-person yet. As you can imagine, it's been a hectic/confusing couple of days.

My dad still has his great sense of humor, so that is encouraging.

I feel like I haven't brushed my teeth in three days. And I've gotten 4 hours of sleep the last two nights in a row.

Anyway, hoping for good news to share soon.

Head boo-boo

Apparently Evey got a bump on her head somehow... and she wanted a band-aid on it, even though it wasn't bad. So Adro obliged, and slapped a big Dora band-aid right on her forehead, much to Evey's pleasure. Photos below...

DONE!

My exciting news for the weekend: I'm DONE with my comic book project!

I started working on this project back in March, I think. And now, I've got a 21-page comic book!

How can you see said comic book? Well, just ask me. At some point, I'll probably be selling them as well, for $4 a pop. We'll see.

It's a great feeling to have a big project done. I worked a lot of hours on it the last ten days to get it done ahead of my Wednesday deadline. It's kind of weird to not have this project outstanding anymore now... I feel like I need to fill the void right away, get to work on something else...

But for now, I'm going to relax for a couple weeks. And then... I'm starting the children's book...

Happy 3rd birthday, Marina!

These girls are getting big!
(btw, this photo is old, so that's not what she looked like on her third b-day or anything.)
Marina had an awesome birthday party last night at the Great Wolf Lodge and invited Evey... we swam and swam and swam until we had to go home, and then we cried because we didn't want to leave. But it was a great 3rd b-day indeed! I'll ask my sister to send me pics so I can post them.

Fun week ahead

Wow, this weekend wore me out. The short of it -- me, Bart and CJ made another movie for the annual "Wild West Film Festival." More details on this later, but we all truly felt like this was our best movie yet. It was a lot of work -- I think we spent a total of 16 hours on it this weekend.

Looking forward to a fun week, not only is the magazine due, but also, we'll be attending Marina's 3rd birthday party, as well as the Marcy Playground concert for me! WHHHEEEEOOOOO-OOOHHHHH!!!

An original Evey Jones story

Evey has been telling us original stories lately. This is one of her favorites:

Once upon a time,
there was a little girl,
and her name was
...Momma.
She fell down!
Go KABOOM!
KABOOM!
She cry.
Go to doctor.
The end.

T-800

For today's doodle I went with the T-800 from the Terminator movies. I went without a photo reference, just my mind's eye.
There's nothing more badass than Schwarzenegger in the first Terminator movie. NOTHING.
Now that I'm thinking of it, a quick list of things that I find totally badass, as of 1 p.m. on this Thursday in July:

Tool singing "Parobala"
The word "parobala"
beef jerkey
Dunking on LeBron
flat-screen TVs
bullwhips
the '69 Charger
wasp killer
artist Gil Kane
laser beams, especially when shot from eyes
Burn Notice
Argentina
more to come...

The cousins

We got Evey, Marina, Jett and Aunt Jessica all having a good time in this photo!

More on the topic of... whatever... coming soon. Need some sleepy time now!

Evey in her Pumas jersey

Thanks to those of you who have asked about my dad. An update -- he saw the doctor on Monday, they took him off the prescription they had him on. Also, he saw an optometrist, and they've corrected his prescription. Hopefully this combination helps him out with the headaches. The doctor also wanted to do a brain scan, but my dad thinks that will be delayed to see if this combo works out first. (Also, my dad is fearful the brain scan will reveal NO BRAIN. ...Sorry, Dad, I had to lighten this post up a little bit!)

Evey has has kept a toy cell phone in the Camaro the past couple days. She usually calls Grandma, or Mommy, or someone. Yesterday morning was a new one.

"Here dad, it's for you," Evey tells me.
"Who is it?" I ask, taking the phone from her.
"It's Daddy." she says.
"Hi Daddy, how are you?" I ask myself.
"You know what? You're one good lookin' dude," I continue, looking back at Evey. Evey stares back at me.
"I was really impressed with the dinner you cooked last night. Another A+ performance..."
Nothing.
"You know I have to tell you this... I love you, you conceited, egomaniacal jerk. I'll talk to you later."
I handed the phone back to Evey.
"I'll be glad when you're older and you 'get' daddy's jokes," I told her. "Your daddy is HILARIOUS..."

Today's theme on the do-it-yourself daily doodle calendar was Picasso. How'd I do?

4th of July, 2009

I hope you had a fun 4th of July. I had a really great one.

My folks came up and hung out with the Jones Family (Lawrence Chapter) all day and we just relaxed, mostly. Evey entertained us with a song or two, then we took the party outside for a nice barbecue. Me and my dad wrapped it up by checking out the inaugural "Tour of Lawrence" cycling race and then eating homemade shortcakes with our strawberries and vanilla ice cream.

Was that amazingly cool weather for a 4th of July, or what?

I only have two regrets about the 4th:

1) I told my friend Brian that we'd come out to their place for the festivities, and we didn't make it. I'm sure Brian didn't notice our absence, but I hate being one of those people who says they're going to do something and they don't (a flake, you might say). So, apologies, Brian -- things got busy for us, pushed back by a late Evey nap, and I decided to keep the family at home.

2) Much more serious, my dad still isn't feeling well. Check out that photo of Evey dancing with the tambourine -- you can tell he doesn't feel well. It's not fun seeing your personal hero in bad shape. He promised me he'd go see another doctor, and I'm going to hold him to it, because it's obvious he's not feeling like himself. GO SEE ANOTHER DOC, DAD, WE'RE WORRIED ABOUT YOU.

The cycling race, btw, was very cool. We only checked it out for a little while, but it was exciting. Way more exciting than the article in Sunday's LJW would lead you to believe. (I might even have to write a letter, that article was so bad.) My photos of the event suck, and do not do it justice. I'm shooting with no viewfinder, since I've managed to break another digital camera... but those dudes were screaming on their bikes. Neat thing to see in downtown Lawrence.

Cool ad

Saw this ad on the back of my comic book. Love it! Very Gary Larson-esque, and a great message.

GCSAA Christmas party 2004

Adro's friend Julie found these photos on the shared drive at work today... these were taken at the 2004 GCSAA Christmas party. Me and Adro had been dating almost a year at this point -- our first date was in January of 2004. And look who's sitting with us -- our friends Jeff and Lindsey!
(Yeah, the photos are blue, for some reason. S'OK, 'cause my girlfriend/wife is SMOKIN' HOT!)
